Speck

Hello, dear readers!

Over the years, I've shared many insights, lessons, and bits of my heart with you. But there's one thing I haven't talked about nearly enough: my own writing.

Unless you've wandered around my website like an adventurous explorer, you may not even know that I'm an author!

I write children's fiction and adult fantasy. I've dabbled in poetry, narratives, and short stories, but fiction is where I feel most at home. It's where my imagination gets to stretch its legs and occasionally run barefoot through the fields.

A few months ago, God gave me the opportunity to speak to children for Literacy Day. I read one of my unpublished children's books and shared a little about my journey as a writer. I encouraged them to write if they felt that spark, even at their young age. That whet my appetite for my own book to be published.

I also shared something I learned the hard way: I spent too many years listening to fear and other voices instead of simply stepping forward.

(As it turns out, fear is not a very good career coach.)

The truth is, I'm still on that journey.

But these days, I'm choosing to press forward. I'm stepping into the parted waters even when I'm nervous. God has faithfully led me this far, and I trust He'll continue to lead me wherever the path goes next.

One of the books closest to my heart is Speck, the story of a grain of sand with a very big personality and even bigger dreams. When those dreams finally come true, however, Speck discovers that getting what we wish for isn't always as simple as we imagine.

(Who knew a grain of sand could be so relatable?)

I have a dream, too.

I dream of becoming a published author. I dream of seeing my books in little hands and in the hands of parents, grandparents, teachers, and caregivers who share stories with the children they love. Most of all, I want God to be glorified through the gifts He has entrusted to me.

I'm closer than I've ever been.
