The Age Mystery

Writer: TammanyTammany

Age is funny thing. Think about it. When you're a baby, people count your life by months even until you're three. When you're little, say between 4 and 10, you want to be older so badly that you add halves and quarters. We're kind of oblivious to age until a certain time. (Don't ask me when that is. I'm pretty sure I just thought hard about it today.) I mean, we know that we're told to celebrate once a year the day that we were born, but we don't honestly get it. We indulge ourselves in the chaotic birthday parties filled with cake and presents. That's what we think about age. Everyone else seems older than us; in charge and capable. Our world is so big.

Then we grow up, past our teen years, even past those turbulent (or golden) 20s and we begin to notice something funny about life. When we were young we never dreamed that our doctor or dentist would be the same age as us. (Or as I discovered this morning, younger. Heavens above!) We don't often associate our peers as the ones in charge and capable. They're figuring out life with us.

But wait, you think that once we hit a certain age we understand life? We don't. We are all still figuring out this thing called life. I know that everyone has an age that they state that is considered "old." Have you noticed though that as you age that number moves farther and farther away? Funny. I'm thinking the oldest man that ever lived, Methusaleh at 969 (Genesis 5:27), thought the exact same thing.

So think about it. Age is really just a number, but as the years go by we realize why the older people in our lives seem to have it altogether. They don't. They too have begin to taste the reality of illusion of age. We gain experience and hopefully wisdom as the years go by, but in truth, even those who are 99+ and on their death bed, never claim to have all of life figured out.

Boy am I glad for my Heavenly Father Who does have everything together, Who does have life all figured out, because He created it. *wipes forehead* I don't need to sweat it. God's got it for me. He is the ultimately the One Who is in charge and capable. Thank You, God!
